The First EP of remixes of Duncan's "Return of the Strobelight" LP
Background
Juno Review:
Playing a pivotal role in the early days of progressive house as one half of Spooky, not to mention helping to spearhead the UK's now standard live techno scene, Duncan Forbes is undoubtedly a national treasure of the British electronic movement.
It's amazing to think he's waited until the third decade of his rich and varied career to drop his first solo album - Return Of The Strobelight Kid - and this three track EP sees three tunes from said LP reworked.
Regular collaborator Mr G tackles 'Rise Above' first, with choppy breaks and gloriously gloopy bass melding impeccably into frisky dancefloor tackle.
Bodhi's remix of 'The Future Of Love' gives a big nod to the big room dub techno bangers of early Basic Channel, before Forbes' own take on 'Quantum Particles Falling From Space' straddles drum & bass and soft, almost YMO-like keys.
Essential listening.
